Male Patient 1 Year Old with Hirschsprung Disease Complicated by Anastomotic Leak

Case Summary

Discussed is a case of a 1-year-old male patient who underwent surgery for Hirschsprung disease, complicated by an anastomotic leak. The patient was then referred to Children's Hospital Colorado for a second opinion. During the operation,  a severe stricture was encountered that prevented the biopsy and indicated the need for another operation. A contrast enema was performed to assess the extent of the stricture. The patient then received a reoperation, during which multiple sutures were placed. The importance of thorough dissection and the possibility of bowel control complications were emphasized.
