Case Overview:
- 17-year-old female referred in 1979 with total urinary and fecal incontinence despite multiple misdirected procedures for her basic cloacal malformation
- Severe hypertension secondary to renal scarring demanded immediate medical treatment
Follow Up:
- With expert medical control of her hypertension and continuous nephrologic monitoring, patient did surprisingly well for many years
- She was advised to avoid pregnancy and she agreed, knowing that a transplant was in her future
- She received a kidney from her father in January 2000, 20 years after the above surgical treatment
- At age 49 years, the patient, her father, and his kidney were all functioning well
- Bowel control remained normal
- Blood pressure normal and she has suitable medical control.
