Neonate with Primitive Anatomy, Usual in Babies with Cloacal Exstrophy (Hendren Patient Case)

Case Overview: 
  • Neonate in 1964 with very primitive anatomy with features usual in babies with cloacal exstrophy
Follow Up: 

In 1971, at age 7 years

  • Further surgery included resecting stenosis of mid left ureter, making a single bladder of the two halves, narrowing bladder outlet, and fashioning a pseudo vagina from small bowel.

In 1988, at age 14 Years

  • Operation was done to narrow the bladder outlet and augment the bladder size with small bowel
  • She catheterized to empty

In 1991, at age 27 years

  • Small bowel vagina was made larger with a buttock flap

In 2001, at age 37 years

  • General health was excellent. She self-catheterized, used one pad per day. Regards her life as otherwise normal
