Learning Objectives
Pediatric Colorectal Surgery Quick Review Course was an international web meeting designed specifically for pediatric surgeons and related medical professional to review important concepts in treating and managing children with complex colorectal medical issues. The half-day course, in part, reviewed how to do and evaluate distal colostograms, provided "tips and tricks" regarding colorectal surgical techniques, and described the importance of implementing effective bowel management programs.
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Review the principles of diagnosis and management of anorectal defects
- Discuss the challenges of short- and long-term postoperative care
- Describe the diagnosis of fecal incontinence and constipation and the difference in their management
- Recognize indications for re-operative surgery
- Discuss management of associated urologic and gynecologic problems
- Review the comprehensive management approach to cloacal exstrophy
- Explain or outline the use of the posterior sagittal approach for surgically treating a variety of conditions
Presentations will generally address:
- Descriptions of challenges and successes in treating patients effectively.
- Descriptions of advances in improving quality of life for patients.
- Descriptions of living with complex pediatric surgical conditions after pediatric healthcare has terminated.
