Case Summary
Newborn's Abdominal Distension and Repair
Dr. Andrea Bischoff presented a case of a newborn patient with no anal opening. She showed an abdominal X-ray taken after birth and discussed the abdominal radiograph's distension and the need for a colostomy due to the distension. Also presented was a kidney ultrasound and an MRI that showed a rectoprostatic fistula. The distal colostogram was discussed, which was not done perfectly because of the patient's position and the presence of stool. Also mentioned was the patient's abnormal sacrum and the need for caution with primary repair. The possibility of a laparoscopic approach and the importance of bowel management as a team effort were also discussed.
